It was a question I'd been pondering for months: who has the best street tacos in Kansas City? I heard Cancun Fiesta Fresh was a contender and there was no better time than Taco Tuesday to put this question to rest.
Located in Westport (across from the Beaumont Club), Cancun Fiesta Fresh offers an array of dishes including street tacos, hard tacos, various combination platters and burritos. It's everything you would expect of an authentic food establishment: nothing pretentious, sparse decor and total focus on the the food.
I ordered two chicken and one carnitas taco.
Between the two meats the carnitas was my favorite. It was well cooked, with very little seasoning. The beauty of the street taco is its simplicity: corn tortilla, cilantro, onions and meat.
I was very pleased with my experience at Cancun Fiesta Fresh. The food tasted fresh, the service was quick and friendly and I enjoyed the small patio. However, in the battle for the best street taco in Kansas City, there is a clear winner in my mind and that is Mi Chihuahua in Lenexa.
I've blogged previously about Mi Chihuahua and after trying some of their competitors, I stand firm in my belief that they are the best. The seasoning on their meat stands out to me more than any other vendor. In addition, you get more food for a better value. Go to Cancun Fiesta Fresh on Taco Tuesday and get a street taco for $1.75. Go to Mi Chihuahua on the same day and get a bigger street taco, with more flavor, for $1.
It's a no brainer. But no knock on Cancun, it's still good food.
Awesome, Shanley!
ReplyDeleteI just got done eating dinner and thought I was full. Not after reading this. Looks great!

Thanks Kevin! Great to hear from you!
DeleteThis place is solid, and I really like their salsas.
ReplyDeleteWhere is this Mi Chihuahua joint? There used to be a "La Chihuahua" that looks like the same type of place on Quivira near Fronteras. Did they re-open under s different (similar) name?
Hey Dave, Mi Chihuahua and La Chihuahua are the same. The sign on their window and their business cards say Mi Chihuahua but I've noticed some of their other marketing materials say La Chihuahua...it's a mystery to me!
