Another stop on my food tour of Westport was Pot Pie, a "blink or you might miss it" little food joint tucked in between a Game Stop and Bluestem Restaurant. I didn't blink, thank goodness.

First things first. The bartender was wearing overalls and had a strong moustache. I was immediately charmed by this place and the quirky man serving the bar seated full of regulars. Whatever he was pouring I had to have.
I ordered the Firethorn, a drink consisting of rum, pineapple juice, fresh grated ginger, ginger beer and cherry juice. Kudos to the moustached man! The result was very tasty. I don't normally like fruity drinks but there was enough ginger beer to offset the fruit making it an enjoyable concoction.
The menu at Pot Pie is written on a chalk board and includes only a handful of entrees and appetizers. I ordered the Spinach Salad with Bacon Vinaigrette.
Ummm, hello?! The bacon vinaigrette is amazing. A solid salad for sure.
These are the most delicious steamed mussels you will ever eat. The sauce consists of leeks, white wine, butter and garlic and I was eating it like soup long after the mussels had been devoured. For an $8 appetizer the portion is huge and the taste is out of this world.
For the entree I ordered the Pan-Roasted Chicken with potatoes and gravy.
A seemingly ordinary dish, Pot Pie hits this chicken out of the park. It's perfectly seasoned, with just a touch of crunch to the skin. The chicken combined with the mashed potatoes, gravy and green beans is just simply good eats - stick-to-your-bones and slap-your-momma kind of good...
...so good I didn't even have room for dessert, which rarely happens. I guess this just gives me a reason to go back. Who knows, maybe I'll even get a pot pie.
I have been to Pot Pie last year November 2011. It was an excellent place! I remember the best ever Spinach and Brie Tart and the wonderful Pate! The Pan seared scallops were the best scallops i had in KC in a very time time. I know that's a strong statement to make but try them for yourself. Thanks for sharing your experience there, i will have to go back as it has been a year. Wow how time flies.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading! I plan on going back to Pot Pie frequently so I will have to try the scallops.
