From the moment I walked into Westport Cafe and Bar I immediately had a good vibe. It's an old school-meets-trendy type of bar that exudes traditional charm with a hipster flair.
You can find it next to The Boot, another favorite spot I've written about.
The winter drink menu includes warm, spiced flavors to entice any cold passerby.
First up: The Hot Buttered Rum
This drink includes Gosling's Black Seal Rum, spiced hot cider, brown sugar butter and grated nutmeg.
You had me at brown sugar butter.
This drink just warms the soul - not to mention it's served hot...with freshly grated nutmeg on top and an orange peel garnish.
Next drink: Old Fashioned
Remember that Ryan Gosling movie "Crazy Stupid Love" where he makes Emma Stone an Old Fashioned and then takes his shirt off? I've wanted to try this drink since the movie came out in 2011.
Made with Old Overholt Rye, simple syrup, bitters and orange twist this drink is not for the faint of heart. It's strong but sweet, just like Ryan Gosling's fantastic abs.
In my opinion, the ultimate test for any cocktail bar is how well they make a Dirty Martini.
Westport Cafe and Bar does a Dirty Martini well.
Personally, I like a bit more olive juice but overall I was pleased.
In conclusion, this is one of my new favorite bars. The atmosphere is dark and cozy, the bartenders are very knowledgeable and the vibe is sophisticated without being pretentious.
Westport Cafe will warm your heart and your wet your whistle. Cheers!
